I3P is the oldest and largest incubator of businesses in Italy. It is considered a good practice at the national level. As far as the operational and management tools are concerned, I3P does not have laboratories as those of the Politecnico di Torino are used (if a small micro-welding laboratory of about 20 square meters is excluded). The continuous collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino assures the I3P incubator the technical and methodological skills necessary to maintain a high level of quality in the provision of services to startups. This cooperation and the working method is undoubtedly a good practice that can be exported and resumed by other stakeholders that provide consulting services for the birth and consolidation of startups. Another tool that could be promoted to other Regional observatories is the creation of a specific program addressed to digital projects. On 2011 I3P has launched TreataBit, a preincubation program designed to support the rapid growth of digital projects aimed at the consumer market http://www.treatabit.net/ It’s a specific digital startup program featured by I3P and it’s important to foster innovation.

Digital startup TreataBit: http://www.treatabit.net/ Through the website it's possible to apply to TreataBit sending an application. Then the applicant is contacted for further discussion. If the project is selected the applicant will have the chance to enter the support program for digital startup TreataBit. The program supports entrepreneurial teams in the development of their own project, in the first market test thus preparing them to be presented to potential partners and investors In addition, the applicant could have access to coworking spaces located at I3P and business consulting and communication of the I3P staff.
History of the institution
First of all, in the case of the I3P Incubator, the institution running the RO and the RO itself are the same entity: I3P Società per la gestione dell'Incubatore di Imprese Innovative del Politecnico di Torino S.c.p.a, I3P Company for the management of the Innovative Business Incubator of the Polytechnic University of Turin Head Corporation/Enterprise. I3P is the leading Italian university incubator and one of the largest in Europe, as repeatedly certified by the international UBI Index. The activity of I3P is part of the overall strategies of the Piedmont Region, aimed at supporting research, technological innovation and new entrepreneurship. I3P favors the creation of innovative startups with high growth potential, founded both by university researchers and students, and by external entrepreneurs. I3P provides starters with equipped spaces, consultancy services and a rich international network of partners, mentors, customers, managers and investors, as well as the opportunity to easily get in touch with the skills of the Politecnico di Torino (Polytechnic University of Turin). Founded in 1999, I3P is based at the main campus of the Polytechnic University of Turin. It is one of the first Italian Incubators to be certified as a "Certified Start Up Innovative Incubator". The innovative start-ups founded at I3P correspond to about 40% of those born in the municipality of Turin. I3P is a publicly owned firm. The associated members are: - Polytechnic University of Turin; - Municipality of Turin; - Metropolitan City of Turin; - Chamber of Commerce of Turin; - Finpiemonte SpA; - Fondazione Torino Wireless (Torino Wireless Foundation).

I3P is a consultancy and advisory company serving: - Students, Researchers and Lecturers; - Entrepreneurs; - Companies willing to create Spin-offs. I3P is a publicly owned firm with an innovative business model and with a strong orientation to results and to the market. Some awards: - Certified Incubator ex L. 221/12. - «Best Science-Based Incubator Award» (2004 overall; 2014 in the «Growth» category) - In 2013 and 2014, among TOP25 university incubators in the UBI Global ranking (in 2014 5th in Europe, 15th in the world). I3P is active in the ICT / Digital, Cleantech, Medtech and Industrial sectors, and performs various activities in the field of Social Innovation. Since 2011, I3P has launched TreataBit, a pre-incubation and acceleration path dedicated to digital projects. I3P is addressed to: - Whoever intends to found an innovative startup with a significant technological base. - Companies of any size interested in innovation, who intend to interact with I3P startups at a commercial or investment level, or who intend to set up their own spinoffs. - To individual and institutional investors looking for highly qualified and selected investment targets. - Anyone interested in developing a part of their professional career in a particularly dynamic and innovative environment. Every year, I3P receives on average over 350 business ideas, works on 150 business plans and "digital" projects and launches 40 innovative start-ups, admitting then 20 in the incubation path. It’s possible to join I3P by presenting a business idea or a business plan directly through the website, by participating in the "Start Cup Piemonte Valle d'Aosta" annual competition and, for "digital" business ideas, by submitting the application to the TreataBit program. The incubation period lasts 3 years, with the possibility of extension up to 5 years.
